Even as rains lashed Southern Mumbai on Saturday, the action on Sunday shifted to the suburbs, which witnessed heavy rainfall throughout the day. These rains also saw Mumbai achieving its monthly rainfall average for June within just 24 days.

According to IMD officials, heavy rains could continue on Monday and into this week. "Several parts of the city can witness moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday as well as Tuesday," said an official. Areas like Borivali received 125 mm while Dadar received 72 mm till 8.30 pm. Jogeshwari, Powai and Malad (west) had received 67 mm, 77 mm and 110 mm till 4.30 pm.

Meanwhile, operations at Mumbai airport were affected as the main runway was shut for around 30 minutes between 3.43 pm and 4.17 pm due to low friction on the runway. Officials at Mumbai airport said there were four go arounds (aborting landing to keep flying) of aircraft on Sunday.
