The city crime branch sleuths have arrested a 19-year-old boy for allegedly making a hoax call on the Mumbai police control room on June 2, saying he is in the US and have planted bombs at various places across the city. He said he made hoax call just to harass police.

The arrested person has been identified as Masooq Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of BMC Colony, Welcome Welfare society, Film City Road in Goregaon (E).

According to the police, on June 2, phone calls were received on the main control room of city police. The caller had claimed that, "Main aatankwaadi hoon…Mumbai mein Filmcity, Mahim, Khar, Bandra, Santa Cruz, Mulund, Mumbra tak saari jagah bomb rakha hai. Nakabandi laga do…Mujhe pakdo nahi toh main bomb blast kar doonga…"

"An alert was sounded in the city following this call, but the information turned out to be a hoax. Investigation has revealed that calls were made in the control room using three different SIM cards," said senior police inspector Netaji Bhople of Kurla unit of crime branch.

He added that the calls were made by Sheikh.

"He admitted of making hoax calls and said he just wanted to press police into action and made these calls for fun. We have registered a case against him at the Azad Maidan police station," he said.
