Mumbai: Teen dies on tracks, scribe falls from train

Tejashree Vaidya, an aspiring journalist, was seriously injured after she fell from a crowded CSMT-bound local between Matunga and Sion railway stations on Thursday.

In two separate railway mishaps, a 17-year-old was mowed down by a local train while crossing tracks near Vidyavihar station, while 23-year-old Tejashree Vaidya, an aspiring journalist, was seriously injured after she fell from a crowded CSMT-bound local between Matunga and Sion railway stations on Thursday.

In the first accident, Jyoti Verma, a resident of Parksite area, Vikhroli died while crossing the tracks at around 11 am. The FJYC commerce student was rushed to Rajawadi hospital but was declared dead before admission. Her father, Munnalal Verma (45), an auto-rickshaw driver said, " We had always told her not to cross the railway tracks."

In the second mishap, Vaidya, a second year post graduate (journalism) student of Sathaye College, Vile Parle fell from a crowded CSMT-bound train. She hit a pole between Sion and Matunga and fell in a nullah, where she was stuck for an hour. Commuters contacted the RPF who rescued Vaidya and rushed her to Sion hospital.
