Riddhi Tripathi, a Class 8 student of Michael High School and Junior College in Kurla, committed suicide on Monday. The resident of Powai was caught cheating in her exam by her teacher but was counselled, claimed the school principal, adding that she didn't exhibit any anomaly in her behaviour that could be suggestive of suicidal tendency.

While writing her science exam on Monday, Riddhi was caught cheating during the last ten minutes. She was taken to the principal's cabin following this. According to the school principal, she was counselled before she left for home. The school authorities claimed they tried to contact her parents, but their phones were out of reach.

Jean Gomes, the principal, said, "It is true. She was caught cheating. But, she was not stopped from writing the rest of her exams. While counselling, she did not show any sign of depression. It has come as a shock for. She was in fact very good in academics as well as in co-curricular activities. Our staff went to attend her funeral today (Tuesday)."

According to Powai Police, Riddhi committed suicide by hanging herself on Monday at her residence. "We have registered an accidental death report in the matter and are conducting preliminary inquiry. We are also checking if the student left any suicide note," said Anil Pophale, Senior Inspector, Powai Police station.
