Less than 24 hours after Mumbai received continuous showers for a few hours, rumours of heavy rains in the next 24 hours are doing rounds on social media.

However, the Indian Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that light to moderate rainfall is likely.

In a weather bulletin, the IMD said, "Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for 24 hours: light to moderate rain likely to occur  in city and suburbs. Heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places. Maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be 32 deg. celsius and  23 deg. celsius respectively.

For 48 hours: "Light to moderate rain likely to occur  in city and suburbs. Heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places. Maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be 31 deg. celsius and  23 deg. celsius respectively."

According to Skymet weather, the off shore running along the West Coast has kept monsoon surge vigorous over the region. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation is also seen over North Madhya Maharashtra and coastal Maharashtra, which is further enhancing the rains over the region.
