Day after a portion of road-over-bridge collapsed at Andheri, another bridge running over railway tracks at Grant Road station developed cracks and was closed for traffic. On Wednesday morning, the Mumbai police tweeted saying that the bridge at Grant Road station has developed cracks and therefore, the traffic has been diverted to Nana Chowk towards Kennedy bridge.

"BMC asked us to shut the bridge. We shut the bridge at around 1 am on Wednesday. It was opened only at around 2.45-3.00 pm," said Amitesh Kumar, joint police commissioner (traffic). Due to diversion, all vehicles were moved to nearby roads.

"Besides relaying the alternate routes on social media, we also deployed some 60 traffic personnel to ensure that the traffic was smooth," said Sanjay Jadhav, deputy commissioner of police (Traffic).

Gulshan Gandhi, a resident of Juhu said that it took an additional one-and-half hour for him to reach his office in Andheri east. On Wednesday, thousands of citizens fumed as they remained stuck in traffic snarls for long time not just in the western suburbs, but also in the Island city.

While the Gokhale bridge, Andheri was totally shut for vehicular traffic, the one at Grant Road was shut at 1 am on Wednesday morning and was thrown open only around 3 pm. Shutting down of Gokhale Road bridge in Andheri and road over bridge in Grant Road meant longer commute. "The traffic was very badly affected in our area due to the bridge collapse. Instead of taking my car to my Chakala office in Andheri east, I took the car to the DN Nagar metro station. From there, I took the metro to Chakala station. I walked to my office instead of taking any vehicle. My driver reached the officer an hour later," said Gandhi.
