Mumbai: Seven companies in race to provide driverless Metro trains

Seven companies from countries like China, Germany, Korea, France and Spain, and domestic companies, have shown interest in supplying 63 driverless Metro trains for three Mumbai Metro corridors that are underconstruction.

The three Metro corridor for which the driverless Metro trains or 378 coaches are being procured include Dahisar — DN Nagar Metro-2A, DN Nagar- Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor and Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 corridor.

The DMRC that is assisting Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had floated bids for the procurement of 63 driverless Metro trains of six coaches that takes the total count to 378 coaches.

Each Metro train will have six coaches, and the bidders were given time up to June for submission of bids for their offers, but the same was extended later.

The MMRDA said, "Hyundai Rotem, Bombardier India and Bombardier Germany, CRRC Corp, Bharat Movers, Titagarh Wagons & Titagarh Firema, Alstom Transport India & Alstom SA and CAF India and CAF, Spain, have responded to bidding that was carried out, adhering to norms set by Asian Development Bank that is funding the three projects."

Further, the evaluation committee will evaluate the bids and the successful bidder will be shortlisted in the next three months.
