Mumbai: Senior police inspector Lalasaheb Shete lands in cop net on bribery charges

As of now Shete has been suspended and the matter is under departmental inquiry

Additional Commissioner of Police, West Region, Dr Manoj Sharma, it seems is trying to send a strong message in his Zonal area by initiating strict action against corruption. Recently, Dr Manoj Sharma suspended senior police inspector Lalasaheb Shete from Andheri police station, after he was found taking bribe money from a dance bar owner in return for not shutting the bar.

According to police sources, the dance bar which operational in Andheri was allegedly not following the prescribed guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. The owner of the bar was called upon by Shete and threatened his bar shall face permanent closure if he did not adhere to his demands.

A police officer on condition of anonymity, said, "The owner was asked if he wished to avert strict action from the police, he should pay a small chunk of money to senior officer. The amount decided between the two parties was often collected by Shete. One day, as the owner went to speak with the officer and he recorded the conversation in a video format. It was discovered that Shete was asking for money in the video and that footage was later shown to the Additional Commissioner, who then decided to take stern action."

As of now Shete has been suspended and the matter is under departmental inquiry.

FACING HEAT

The dance bar was  operational in Andheri and was allegedly not following guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. The owner of the bar was called upon by Shete and threatened his bar shall face permanent closure if he did not adhere to his demands.
