Mumbai: Rs 558 crore worth of cases, settled at the National Lok Adalat held on Sunday

A total of 1, 52,039 cases were settled in the month of February

A total of 2, 91322 cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat held across the state on April 22. The total value of the litigation involved and which was settled is around Rs 558 crore.

Member Secretary, Maharashtra State Legal Aid Services Authority (MALSA), Shrikant Kulkarni said “The settled cases are under various acts like Land Acquisition, family court, Negotiable Instruments Act etc.”

Deputy Secretary MALSA, Sanjay Yadav said on the day, the National Lok Adalat was held at 33 districts and 330 talukas. Even at the Bombay High Court, sitting Judges held a panel, to resolve the cases, under the Alternate Dispute Redressal Forum. A total of 198 cases, were settled at Mumbai High court, 235 at Nagpur bench and 352 at the Aurangabad bench.

At the last National Lok Adalat held in February, a total of 1, 52,039 cases were settled, of which the litigation value was around Rs 435 crore. As per the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority, the Lok Adalat has to be held four times a year. Maharashtra ranks third in the number of cases settled.
