The Islamic State (IS) might have made its presence felt in the country, but the Muslims of Mumbra are not impressed. In fact, they have come forward to oppose the IS agendas and have even vowed to destroy the outfit from their region. The community leaders and priests are also planning to organise public meetings after namaaz to spread the word of peace and non-violence.

Following the arrest of several Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and IS activists in Mumbra, the security agencies have been keeping a close watch on the activists of youths. Though the community, along with the police, has carried out several informative rallies, the arrest of Mudabbir Shaikh from the area has put a dampener on the anti-IS campaigning.

A Mumbra police official, however, said, "We think the arrested accused was involved before shifting to Mumbra. Our campaign is on the right path. We will destroy all terrorist links in our jurisdiction."

Maulana Nadvi from the Mumbra masjid said, "We are organising meetings of community leaders to explain to the youths about the religion, and that the agenda of terrorism has no place in our religion. We want to eradicate such moles from our community."

Social activist Rashid Khan said, "We feel angry that despite undertaking such campaigns, an IS member was arrested from Mumbra. It only tarnishes the image of our community. In fact, the leaders feel the entire IS propaganda is against the religion and youths should not get connected to it in any way. We have also started contact benches in the mosques for reporting of any information regarding incidents of brainwashing. The information will be kept confidential."

Salima Khureshi, another activist from Amrut Nagar in Mumbra, said, "The name of the region has been spoiled due to a few people. We hope to revive it with good work and helpful activities for the new generation."

Maulana Kamar Ali Umar said, "We are sure that no such activity will take place in future but still, youths are being requested to come forward to inform us about any such activities. We also request the people to not get involved, because Islam doesn't promote terrorism or violence."

Mumbra resident Imtiaz Sayyed said, "We are often looked at with suspicion because we are from Mumbra. A few people were even denied visas and passports."
