The residents of Lumbini Baug in Govandi area of eastern suburb of Mumbai got a rude shock when a part of newly repaired women's toilet collapsed like a pack of cards. The toilet was repaired from funds of Anil Kamble, local corporator and was thrown open just two months ago.

Locals from area were very upset over the incident as they were sure that such disaster was waiting to happen. "Corporator fooled us even when we kept on requesting him for reconstruction and not to repair. Toilet was more than 10-15 years old and was in dilapidated state. However, corporator only did cosmetic repairs and painted it to look new. But today's incident brought the fact in open. What answer he has," said a resident.

"We are glad that no one is hurt. If it would have happened in the morning hours when women were using the toilets, it would have certainly claimed lives or injured them. How can our elected representative do this to us," the resident added.

Zameer Khan, another resident said that most of the toilets in the area are similar in state and residents use them with risk. "Residents don't have any choice. Workers just dab cement on wall to look like plaster and then paint is applied. The corporator even had put up a hoarding to claim the credit. Now will he shoulder the responsibility too," he asked.

Repeated attempts were made to contact Anil Kamble but he did not responded to calls.
