Though the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shows speed in its action after Himalaya bridge collapse, it only has managed to start repair work on less than 50 per cent bridges which need repair. The other bridges work is delayed due to tender processing.

The BMC had started giving work order way back in January, even before the Himalaya bridge collapse happened.

According to the reports submitted in September 2018 by the three agencies appointed for Western suburbs, Eastern suburbs and South island, there are 214 bridges which need repairs.

The city has 314 bridges and 14 brides need to be demolished as per the report. But the civic body managed to give repair works to only 93 bridges before the model code of conduct sets in. The BMC was in process to give work order of another 16 bridges in the SoBo, but the process halted because of the MCC. BMC officers managed to convince the Standing Committee meeting and get passed the proposal. But still, there are more than 50 per cent bridges which need repairs or reconstruction are pending with tender process. A senior BMC officer said that BMC is working on the other bridges and the work order will be given as soon as possible.
