Mumbai: Rain-triggered ailments less in June compared to last two years

As per the past two years record of BMC's public health department, the first month of the monsoon season has seen a decrease in a number of medical cases since 2016.

While monsoon blesses us with much-needed relief from burning heat, it also comes with lots of diseases and serious health issues. Keeping that in mind, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s health department has started creating awareness regarding the precautionary measures to be taken by the citizens for waterborne disease.

As per the past two years record of BMC's public health department, the first month of the monsoon season has seen a decrease in a number of medical cases since 2016.

While there were 482 malaria cases in June 2016 and 442 in June 2017, the number has reduced to 356 in June 2018.

Similarly, the number of waterborne disease cases in the month of June since 2016 has also decreased. There were 48 cases of dengue in June 2016 and 31 in June 2017, the number has reduced to 21 in June 2018.

While there were 979 gastro cases in June 2016 and 886 in June 2017, the number has reduced to 779 in June 2018. While in the case of leptospirosis, the number of cases increased in June 2017; 20 cases in comparison to 10 cases in June 2016 but the number has decreased to five cases in June 2018.
