Mumbai police foil protests against Padmaavat, detain 150 persons

On Thursday, amidst heavy police bandobast Padmaavat was screened in Mumbai without any disruptions. The Mumbai police detained 150 persons as a preventive action to maintain law and order in the city. Few Karni Sena activists created a minor ruckus at Carnival Cinemas in Vasai but were immediately detained and were let off with a warning. Meanwhile, Karni Sena leaders claimed that no protest was organised against the screening of the film but their members were picked up from Navi Mumbai and Vasai-Virar region.

As a precautionary measure, atleast 15 policemen were deployed at every multiplex screening Padmaavat, two policemen were guarding the entry and exit points in plain clothes, two others were present in the screening room, four at the eatery and other policemen were guarding the premises of the multiplex to ensure safety for the moviegoers. The Karni Sena Members were picked up from Vashi, Chembur, Vasai, Virar and in Western Suburbs of Mumbai.

"There was no tension in the city due to the screening of the movie. We had conducted special bandobast to ensure safety of the moviegoers. We had already detained 150 persons as a preventive arrest.", said Deepak Deoraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) and spokesperson of Mumbai police.

"We will continue to keep an eye on the situation throughout the week and ensure that law and order situation is maintained in the city.", said Deoraj.

Karni Sena refused that they organised a protest in the city. Shakti Singh, vice president of Karni Sena, said, "We did not held any protest in the city against the screening of the movie Padmavat."

While other members from Karni Sena claims that few of the members were detained from various parts of the city by the Mumbai police officers.

Ajay Singh, one of the Karni Sena member, said, "We did a protest at Navi Mumbai area. Around 3,000 members were detained since morning. They were detained from their house, different theater halls even before protesting. 
They were made to sit inside the police stations. In Mumbai around Chembur, Vashi and Navi Mumbai members were detained. We are protesting against the dance performed by the actor in the movie."
