The Kanjurmarg police on Thursday evening found the burnt body of a 23-year-old female software engineer from Andhra Pradesh who had been missing since January 5 on Service Road, Kanjurmarg (East).

"The victim, Esther Anuhya's body was identified by her father SJS Prasad (59), a retired professor from Andhra University. He identified her by the gold ring she wore," said ACP (Bhandup division) A Shejwal.

The FSL team visited the spot to conduct investigation and the body will be sent to JJ Hospital for post mortem. Kurla GRP and Mumbai crime branch officials reached the spot to conduct the investigation, he added.

After the Christmas vacation, Anuhya, boarded the Vishakapatnam-LTT Express from Vijayawada railway station on January 4 for Mumbai.

“On the same day, when the train reached Solapur around 10 pm, her father called and spoke to her for five minutes, when she said that she was alright and had reached Solapur. She also told him that she will call him once she reaches her hostel in Andheri.

"On January 5, around 7 am, her father called her, but she did not answer the phone. So he thought that she was sleeping.”

Anuhya's father kept calling her the entire afternoon on both her cellphones, but both were found to be switched off.

He even contacted her colleagues but there was no trace of her. That is when he lodged 'a missing persons’ complaint at the Vijayawada railway police station on January 5.

Later, Prasad came to Mumbai and lodged 'missing complaint' of Esther Anuhya at the Kurla railway police station on January 8.
