A constable in Mumbai Police was booked on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman.

According to Pantnagar Police, the 25-year-old accused constable is attached with Local Arms police in Mumbai and was resident of the Pantnagar area.

The accused and victim were known to each other and were having communication since past several days, the police said.

However, on Tuesday the victim approached the local police claiming that the accused allegedly raped her after abducting her. She also said that he forced her to abort the child.

The constable is absconding since the woman filed the police complaint and have not even reported to the duty.

"We have registered a case against the constable and our probe is on. It seems that the accused forced her for abortion," a police officer on the condition of anonymity said.

"Our efforts are on to nab the accused," he added.
