An Ambernath-based woman, Fareeda Khan, lodged a complaint this week with the Ambernath Police Station against an agent, Imran Shaikh, who was also arrested in the SSC Paper Leak scam. Shaikh allegedly cheated Fareeda and her husband in the guise of rescuing her from Muscat. Fareeda returned to Mumbai from Muscat earlier this month.

The FIR states that Fareeda, 36, on 27 January, had left for Dubai for employment. Five days later, she was sent to Muscat to work as a maid, wherein she was allegedly subjected to ill-treatment. Fareeda informed her husband, Abdul — who was in Ambernath, about the same. To seek help in rescuing Fareeda, Abdul approached an agent, Imran Shaikh, who demanded Rs 60,000. Abdul made the payment by 20 February.

After receiving the payment, Shaikh began to dodge Abdul and made false promises. Abdul, in the FIR, has also alleged that Shaikh was also caught in the alleged SSC Paper Leak case.

Abdul said, "My wife had approached the woman commission, which guided her and helped her in registering the FIR. I have been summoned by the police. I will meet them first and only then will I be able to comment."

The original complaint was made by Abdul to the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW). The Commission further sought MEA's help. When DNA contacted Shaikh, a man claiming to be his cousin, named Javed responded. "We have settled the matter with the woman and Imran is out right now and hence cannot talk(sic)." According to an MSCW official, Imran had allegedly approached Fareeda to settle the matter and offered her some money.

The case has been registered under section 420 and 370 of the IPC against Imran and a few others.
