Would you like to hobnob with the city's social media stars for a week? Well, here's your chance to do just that. To be hosted at the Novotel, Juhu, the week-long social media event will be held simultaneously in 11 equally vibrant cities of the world—Berlin, Chicago, Johannesburg, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Rome, Rotterdam, São Paulo, Sydney and Toronto.

With last year seeing the debut of Social Media Week in Mumbai, Bandra resident and an early adopter of social media, Netra Parikh, says, "I have been a part of multiple platforms for social media activities and among other things, I have noticed that brands today prefer to promote themselves on social media rather than share intel on social change." Coincidentally, the relevance of Parikh's words resonates with the theme of 'Social Media for Social Change' this year.

Speakers at the event will include stalwarts from the digital media space including Rishi Jaitly, Head, Twitter India; Anaggh Desai, Founder, 1+99 Experience Consulting; Kunal Jeswani, Chief Digital Officer, Ogilvy & Mather, India among others. It'd be rather interesting to see them talk about subjects like diplomacy in social media, connecting the dots between the virtual and real worlds, social media and politics and building a career in social media and digital marketing.

Anaggh Desai who will share his perspective on switching from classical marketing styles to focusing on the experiential marketing shares, "Experiential marketing and social media go hand in hand, if handled correctly. If there is already a community that is known or identified, it would be easier to reach out to it; or create one. Communication is much faster now and that can be an experience in itself. However, care should be taken to ensure that target group evaluation and relevance are kept in mind." Now, that is a tip that everyone from budding entrepreneurs, new restaurants to even niche travel agents can adopt and benefit from.

"I am excited to see so many organisations and brands from different industries coming on board to curate the sessions for the event and making it the biggest crowdsourced festival. I look forward to the five days of media festivity," says Rohit Varma, Founder and Managing Partner, R SQUARE Consulting.net, the company that will be curating the entire event.

It is interesting to see how such concepts are not just limited to the media industry but are open to anyone with an idea to drive change using the power of social media. A head start into the digital marketing and social media space, we sure are looking forward to it.
