The Juhu police have launched a manhunt for the domestic help of actor Bhagyashree’s in-laws who had allegedly made off with gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh after spiking their breakfast.

During the investigation, the police learnt that the domestic help was hired around ten days ago and his details were not even registered with the Juhu police. The victims did not even know his proper name and mobile number.

According to the police, victims, Pannalal Dattani, 73 and his wife, Shakuntala, are inlaws of actor Bhagyashree and live at Hirak Housing Society at Irla, Vile Parle (west).

The incident took place on Friday morning after the couple returned from the morning walk and the help, identified as Ramu, gave them breakfast. After eating it, the couple  lost consciousness.

Meanwhile,  Ramu decamped with valuables worth Rs 20 lakh.

“The incident came into light after the actor called up her parents several times and did not get any response. She then went there only to find them lying unconscious,” said a police officer.

“We are checking the CCTV footage of the building so we can get Ramu’s picture. We are also questioning the people, who had referred him for the job,” said senior inspector Arun Bhagat of Juhu police station.

The police have sent the food samples to Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory for chemical analysis.

“The victims only knew that Ramu was from Uttar Pradesh,” added Bhagat.
