Production for the remaining five Mumbai Monorail rakes is yet to commence in Malaysia, and it will take another 3 months to begin.
The production was kept on hold after a series of technical glitches occurred in the first year of Mumbai Monorail, manufactured by Scomi Engineering.
An MMRDA official said: "We are studying the equipment that has been installed on the existing rakes. Depending upon the outcome, necessary changes will be made; only then will we give the go ahead to re-start production."
UPS Madan, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA said: "Existing rolling stock is good enough to commence operations of the second phase." Currently, the first phase is in service between Wadala Depot and Chembur, whereas the second phase between Wadala Depot and Jacob Circle is under construction.
