Three more stations need to be covered on this stretch.
Trial run for the second phase of Mumbai Monorail project went a few more stations ahead on Thursday, but it still has last three stations to cover. "Another round of trial run was conducted on Thursday. This time the monorail went up to Mint Colony in Parel," said Sanjay Khandare, additional metropolitan commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
On August 15, the MMRDA along with Larsen & Toubro-Scomi Engineering (LTSE) had conducted partial trial run between Wadala Depot and Acharya Atre Nagar, passing the monorail stations of GTB Nagar and Antop Hill. In order to reach Mint Colony, it crossed the monorail stations of Wadala Bridge (Wadala Railway Station), Dadar East, Naigaon and Ambedkar Nagar. The trials commenced at around 11 AM and concluded just within two hours. Now, the stations that are left to be covered for the trial run are Lower Parel, Chinchpokli and Jacob Circle. The second phase between Wadala Depot and Jacob Circle stretches just over 10 km. In all, there are 18 stations, combining both the phases of the entire 19.17 km-long monorail route in Mumbai.
"During the test run, certain parameters were checked and are being analysed. They include checking the alignment, to see the electrical components, obstacles if any, etc.," added Khandare. The trial was conducted at a precautionary speed of 15 kmph. The consortium of LTSE is yet to carry out the balance works till Jacob Circle. Even the remaining five monorail trains are yet to arrive from Scomi's Malaysian manufacturing plant to Mumbai. In all, there are 10 monorail rakes as part of the operative and inoperative fleet.
The MMRDA intends to complete the series of trial runs successfully by the end of this year.
