Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) took to the streets on Thursday, once again, highlighting the issue of potholes in the city. However, this time around, the party named the potholes after BMC-appointed contractors, who developed the roads, in Saki Naka area.

The party had earlier sent photographs of around 350 potholes of roads across Mahim, Matunga, and Dadar, followed by a band-baaja protest, tree-plantation drive in potholes and commemoration ceremony as well. Wednesday's protest was led by MNS corporator Dilip Lande, who attacked Shiv Sena for being hand-in-glove with the contractors.

In a first-ever direct attack on Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, the MNS held him responsible for turning a blind eye towards the pothole menace. "They (Sena) are in power at the BMC and are led by him (Uddhav). Thus, all the responsibility lies with him and he must be held responsible for the wretched condition of roads in the city," said Lande.

MNS adherents placed hoardings with names of contractors in the potholes, as they issued a warning to the civic body to register more stringent cases against the contractors. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena, attacked MNS and the Nitesh Rane-led Swabhimaan Sanghtana, which had staged an exhibition on potholes. Sena corporators, claimed that the potholes shown in the exhibition were of 2015.

"By publishing last year potholes and captioning them as 2016, does not change the reality. This is a cheap stunt," Sena corporator and leader of house Trushna Vishwasrao said, while adding that even municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta had said that this year the count of potholes on Mumbai roads were very less in comparison to last year.
