The MHADA headquarters located at the Bandra's Kalanagar, may soon turn into a new swanky building, with a corporate look. According to senior officials, the existing ground plus six storey building will undergo a redevelopment. The housing authority is eyeing an FSI of 5, which will allow them to go tall and in most likelihood it will stand at 16-storey.

The new building will serve several purposes, while it will mean better and a swanky office, which will bore a corporate attire, at the same time, it will help the authority generate revenue by leasing out additional space. Apart from this, the main purpose it will serve, is that many prospective home buyers, come to the headquarters and the current building is not in a very good shape.

Deepender Singh Kushwaha confirmed that the file regarding redevelopment that was moving slowly has gained speed and is being considered. A senior official who has worked on the file said, "The redevelopment of the building has to be carried out and all possibilities have been thought about, including the funnel zone. We are planning to have an FSI of 5, as per the new Development Plan."

The total amount that will be spend is close to Rs 250-300 crore but it is not yet decided, claimed an official. A senior official said, "We have a lot of people who visit the building these people are home buyers, the building if it is swanky will help us instil further faith in them about the quality of construction and the hope that they will get good homes from the housing authority."

Also revenue in form of leasing space is another option that will be available with the housing authority. Currently a bunch of government organisations and banks already have their offices in the same building. When the space increases they will be able to lease further large spaces to different government bodies and other organisations.
