Environmentalists and residents of Colaba-Cuffe Parade will observe World Forestry Day on March 20 by forming a human chain at the Marine Drive promenade. The topic will be 'Save Aarey' and 'Save Colaba Woods', both of which are in focus due to planned metro rail car depot of Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor.

World Forestry Day, observed for the first time in 2013, is marked on March 21 every year internationally.

"We will be forming a human chain for a global cause, which is saving trees. Over 1,000 trees are expected to be axed as part of the proposed Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro project," said Kanika Maheshwari Acharya, a resident of Cuffe Parade.

The human chain will start at the promenade, opposite Jazz by the Bay or Hotel Intercontinental and go on till Mafatlal Junction/Girgaum, depending on the number of people turning up for the silent protest.

"The event will start at 5pm and go on for an hour. It is intended to be a peaceful and symbolic show of solidarity by citizens across Mumbai," said Stalin D of the Save Aarey forum.
