Mumbai Metro services were disrupted during the Wednesday evening rush hour, inconveniencing hundreds of passengers. A metro train came to a halt for a few minutes, having a cascading effect on the metro schedule.

The problem began at 6pm, when the signalling system of the Mumbai Metro developed technical glitches, forcing operations to come to a halt for a couple of minutes.

Thereafter, the metro continued with its operations but at a slower pace than usual. "Trains between Sakinaka and Ghatkopar ran at a restricted speed of 25kmph for about 7 minutes," said a Mumbai Metro spokesperson.

These seven minutes were enough to throw the metro's schedule out of normalcy.

This is not the first incident of Mumbai Metro services being affected; just over a month ago, the Metro came to a halt during the March 30 rush hour, after its power supply went off, and gave Monday morning blues to its commuters.

The Fare Fixation Committee, which will devise revised fares for the Mumbai Metro, was given an extension till July 10 by the Supreme Court. The term of the panel had expired on April 30.
