It was Monday blues in the real sense for Metro commuters. The morning rush hour saw the train grinding to a halt after power tripped.

What stopped the Metro?
On Monday, the power supply at Versova Car Depot Traction Sub-Station tripped, resulting in a technical snag. There are two traction sub-stations to operate Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro rail — one at Versova and the other at Marol.

Why did the power trip?
The tripping of power was from a cable coming in from Reliance Energy to Mumbai Metro due to which traction power failed, thus having a chain effect on services along the 11.4km-long corridor. The power supply team immediately got into action and restored it within a few minutes.

What are authorities saying?
A Mumbai Metro spokesperson said, "Metro services were affected for a few minutes this morning due to disruption in power supply. The services were, however, restored from Versova till Ghatkopar within five to eight minutes." Terming it a rarest of rare occasion, the spokesperson added that the circumstances were unavoidable.

How did commuters react?
However, commuters on micro-blogging sites claimed the delay was of around 15 minutes, with even indicators at stations not giving the precise expected time and subsequent trains arriving jampacked with people.
On Twitter, Pranit Purao @Xenoncypher tweeted, "Even the trains suffer from #mondayblues ! #mumbai #mumbaimetro #technicalglitch". One namiT@fingkisher tweeted, "Mumbai Metro is getting worse. Double decker metro chalu kardo abhhh"

Not the first time
Even on the day of its inauguration, June 8 last year, Metro services were affected and halted mid-section (between two stations). The track changing point outside Ghatkopar Metro station too was an area of concern for authorities, which has now been rectified.
The Mumbai Metro spokesperson claimed that their services have an average operational punctuality of 99.5% due to effective management of rolling stock, maintenance practices and staff efficiency.
