Chinese street food banned outside Mumbai schools

The Congress party had recently demanded that the MCGM ban the sale of Chinese street food with immediate effect as the taste-maker used in these foods, 'ajinomoto', is very harmful.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has issued strict orders to not let hawkers sell fried foodstuff on pavements and Chinese food outside schools.

"The Municipal Commissioner has issued strict orders that fried foodstuff cannot be sold on pavements. He has also asked the Assistant Municipal Commissioner to ensure that Chinese foodstuffs are not sold to school students," MCGM's Executive Health Officer Padmaja Keskar said.

The Congress party had recently demanded that the MCGM ban the sale of Chinese street food with immediate effect as the taste-maker used in these foods, 'ajinomoto', is very harmful.

Devendra Amberkar, leader of opposition in the civic body, had last week written to Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh demanding the ban within 8 to 10 days.
