What can be considered as a feather in the city’s first resident’s cap, mayor Sunil Prabhu has managed to figure amongst 500 powerful people in a list published by the magazine Foregin Policy.

The list includes 15 personalities from India including prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, chief minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit and opposition leader in Parliament Sushma Swaraj, besides some others.

According to a statement released by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Singh has praised Prabhu on being listed by the magazine.

The magazine considered various parameters while selecting names for the list with the ratio being one personality per 1.40 crore of populace. The list in which Prabhu’s name appears is the most important among other lists released, the BMC statement maintains.

While Prabhu remained unavailable for his version, leader of the House in the BMC and party (Shiv Sena) colleague Yashodhar Phanase was all praises for him.

“It is definitely a matter of pride for all of us. We are going to move a proposal to congratulate him in House,” Phanase said.

Considering India’s strategic importance in south Asia and their roles in tackling terror activities, defence minister AK Antony, R&W head Alok Joshi and national security adviser (NSA) Shiv Shankar Menon are also included in the list along with yoga guru Baba Ramdev, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar and amnesty international secretary general Salil Shetty.
