Mumbai: Man was on his way home for lunch

When her husband didn't return home at the usual time for lunch, Divya Sangale tried calling Dinesh Sangale but when an hour later when his call flashed on her phone, it was a police officer on the other end of the line, asking her to reach KEM Hospital as soon as possible.

Dinesh Sangale, 48, a Dadar resident died after a Gulmohar tree fell on him near the Mumbai Marathi Grantha Sangrahalaya, Dadar (East), a mere 20 steps away from his house, on Thursday evening.

Divya said, "I tried calling my husband for an hour but received no response from him. He stopped near the Sangrahalaya and was talking to someone on the fated footpath. The tree first fell on a car parked nearby and later on tumbled on his head. He was immediately taken to KEM Hospital by the pedestrians."

Dinesh worked at a photocopy shop near Dadar TT and routinely visited his home around 3 pm for lunch. He was the primary breadwinner for his family and earned around Rs 5,000 a month. He is survived by his wife and two daughters of 9 and 4-years-old. His wife, Divya, is a class 7 graduate and works as a house help. She earns around Rs 2,500 a month.

According to the residents, they are requesting the BMC officials to compensate Divya by giving her low-grade work rather than monetary compensation.

Babaji Shinde, a resident of the area, said, "We will be writing a letter to the authority to give the family a source of income. Monetary compensation will not help the family survive in the long run."
