Travel management company Thomas Cook recently received a legal notice from a consumer after the firm allegedly abruptly cancelled his trip without keeping him in the loop.

According to Cherian George, the complainant, Thomas Cook not only cancelled his entire trip, but also allegedly delayed to hand over the credit note, which the company had offered him towards compensation. Hence, George has asked the company to repay the booking amount of Rs1,50,000 with 18 per cent interest, along with some compensatory amount.

According to George, in February 2013, he came across an advertisement in a newspaper about a trip Thomas Cook was to arrange to South Africa. He had booked three tickets for this family for the month of May.  Suzanne Pereira, a vice president with the travel firm said, “Our company had offered George a credit note (valued at Rs1,50,000). This gesture was appreciated and accepted by George.

Hence, it’s with dismay that we received a legal notice. The allegation in the notice is factually incorrect.

The tour booked for the family is a group tour which operated as scheduled. It is to be noted that George was unable to undertake the tour due insufficient pages on his passport and the absence of a valid visa.”
