A 42-year-old,owner of a rationing shop in Dadar has lodged a complaint at Bhoiwada police station stating that a man who posed as a journalist approached him for extorting money. Ramesh Nanda, resident of Ghatkopar, alleged that the accused introduced himself as Jayprakash Dubey extorted money from one of his relatives who is a wholesale supplier of ration products by threatening him using a bogus press card.

According to the Bhoiwada police, Nanda owns a store in Dadar. Two months back, Dubey approached him with a News 99 press card. "Dubey told Nanda that he has a tip-off regarding the black marketing of food grains at his shop. He blackmailed him into paying Rs 10,000 every month if he wanted to escape police intervention. If he failed to comply, the news shall be published in the newspaper. He also threatened to approach the rationing officer if he does not get the money," said a police officer. However, Nanda refused to give into his demands.

Again last week, Dubey visited him at the shop and warned him that he would get his shop licence cancelled. Nanda refused the allegations of black marketing and the duo fell into a heated argument after which Nanda called the cops. When Dubey was trying to flee from the spot, the locals nabbed him."Dubey deliberately used terms like exposing the traders and distributors by filing an RTI query and so on. He also said that he had good contacts in the government departments to expose them. We have registered a case under section 384 and 385 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway," the officer added.
