Mumbai: Man molests, assaults stepdaughter, held

The Juhu police have arrested a 38-year-old man on Monday for allegedly raping and assaulting his 14-year-old stepdaughter. The police claim that the accused was sexually abusing the minor over the past three years. He had also taken offensive pictures and threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone.

The suspect is an interior design contractor and married the girl's mother, few years ago after they met on internet. After marriage, the couple started living in Lallubhai Park in Andheri (W).
According to police, the girl, who was earlier studying in Panchgani moved in with her mother after her second marriage. The couple used to have argument over petty issues regularly. The girl's mother had earlier approached the Juhu police and filed a non-cognisable complaint.

"The incident occurred on Friday when the couple got into an argument and in fit of rage the suspect allegedly assaulted and molested the girl. She then approached her uncle (mother's brother) and narrated the incident," said police officer.

"While narrating the incident she also told that the suspect had sexually abused her on several occasion and took her picture and threatened her," added the officer.

"The girl was sent for a medical test and we are waiting for the report. The cell phone of the suspect has been seized and investigation is on," said a senior police inspector, Rajendra Chavan of the Juhu police station.

"Following the victim's statement we have arrested the stepfather under section 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and also under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act," added Chavan.
