A 40-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and her lover, grievously injured by the deceased's husband after he discovered their illegitimate relationship. The incident happened in Khar around 3am on Monday.

The accused, Ravi Gowda (42), and his wife Shantabai (40), lived on the footpath with their three children. The couple worked as labourers.

According to the Khar police, Gowda claimed that he took the step as he did not approve of his wife's affair. On Monday, Ravi noticed Chandu, walked towards his wife and sat beside her. S Varpe, PI of Khar police, said, "Gowda had been suspicious of his wife and when he saw Chandu, getting close to her, he got angry. Both the men were under the influence of alcohol. When the fight got out of control, Ravi attacked his wife and Chandu, repeatedly with a paver block on their heads."

A passer-by saw the incident and tried to stop Gowda. However, he allegedly threatened the passer-by of dire consequences if he interfered. "The passer-by, who was a driver approached the police. By the time we reached the spot, it was already too late. Both of them were lying in a pool of blood. We took them to Bhabha Hospital. Gowda was immediately arrested," added Dattatray Bhargude, senior PI.

Shantabai died a few hours later at the hospital, Chandu is admitted with severe head injuries. He is in critical condition. In his statements, Gowda told the cops that he was against his wife's affair and committed the crime in a fit of rage. He has been arrested under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) under the IPC.
