A man who was arrested by the police for allegedly stalking a foreign woman managed to flee from custody within three hours of his arrest. The incident took place on Aug 18 in the airport area of Santacruz. The accused, Anand Rasu Chinappa, is a native of Tamil Nadu. The police have sent a team to his native place.

According to Airport police, Chinappa had come to Mumbai last week from Chennai for work and had gone to the airport on Monday to return home. “At the airport, he made obscene gestures at a foreign woman and kept following her. The woman brought this to the notice of the security guards, who apprehended him and handed him over to the police,” said an officer in Airport police station.
A case of stalking was slapped on Chinappa and he was arrested around 6pm and taken to the office of the assistant commissioner of police, Madhukar Sankhe, for being questioned.

“While being taken back from the ACP office to the police station around 8.30pm, Chinappa pushed aside the escort constable and fled. A case under section 224 of the IPC (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) has been registered against Chinappa,” said the officer.
Chinappa had given his mobile number and residential address in Tamil Nadu to the police after being arrested. The police are trying to trace him through this.
