Mumbai: Man held for sending vulgar clips to woman

The Goregaon police have arrested a 50 year-old man who allegedly sent total eight obscene videos to a 41 year-old woman on her mobile phone. The accused has been identified as Anil Singh, a resident of Goregaon and the arrest was made on Sunday after Singh surrendered himself at the police station after the victim lodged a FIR against him. The victim who is also a resident of Ram Mandir road in Goregaon west has alleged that Singh first offered her a job opportunity as an accountant but since she refused to work there, he sent eight obscene videos on her WhatsApp number following which, she approached the cops to take action.

According to the police, the victim stays with her husband who is employed at a private job and two children. Earlier, she too was a working professional working for a marketing company but owing to the upbringing of her kids, she left the job few years back. Few weeks back, she approached Singh who is known to her and also stays close to her vicinity to ask if there was any appropriate profile for any job where she could fit in. Singh said that he shall speak with another lady and if there is any vacancy, he will inform her.

"In the course of time, Singh contacted the victim and informed that there was a post vacant for an accountant at Singh Industrial Estate in Goregaon so she can join it. After getting this job offer, the victim and her family went outstation to celebrate the Ganpati festival and when she returned few days ago, Singh again approached her regarding the job status. The victim however refused to join as her husband had advised to refrain joining as the area is not safe. Following this, Singh on Saturday afternoon, sent eight videos on the victims number and after showing it to her husband, the couple immediately registered an FIR against Singh," said a police officer investigating the case.

On knowing about the police action against him, Singh surrendered to the cops and when his phone was examined, the police found those videos from the device's memory.

"All these videos are obscene by nature which had captured private moments of the victim. However the motive behind the act is yet to be established. The device is in our custody and we have registered the case under section 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code and section 67 of the Information Technology Act. Further investigation is underway," the officer added.
