In a modern-day tale of Cain and Abel, a 52-year-old man was allegedly killed by his younger brother over the mundane chore of sweeping. Sunil Palekar, a resident of Bhandup, was sweeping the floor of Ganesh's home and the dust raised went into his brother's children's eyes. The brothers lived together.

The incident took place on Tuesday at around 5:30 pm. The children began to cry, and a heated argument broke out between the brothers. In a fit of rage, Ganesh picked up a PVC fibre pipe and started beating his graphic designer brother. Sunil fell unconscious, and Ganesh rushed him to the hospital. However, he was declared dead upon arrival.

Ganesh admitted to the police that he assaulted his brother, however, had no intention of killing him. He said he himself is in shock and shattered.

Bhandup police have arrested him for murder. "We are still clueless about how Sunil died as there are no major external injuries on his body, " said a senior police officer, adding, "The cause of death is not clear even after post-mortem. We are awaiting the viscera and chemical analysis report."
