A 48-year-old man allegedly consumed poison inside the Amboli Police Station on Tuesday afternoon. Jaysingh Chauhan was immediately rushed to a civic hospital. According to the Amboli Police, Chauhan was earlier arrested on November 16 for stalking two women.

Chauhan, at around 1 pm on Tuesday, shot a video of himself claiming he is about to commit suicide. Chauhan said that he and his family were being tormented by the police over false allegations levelled against him. Chauhan also accused a police inspector and senior police inspector Bharat Gaikwad of the Amboli Police of mistreatment. He blamed them for driving him towards suicide.

Chauhan then walked into the Amboli Police Station, where he had almost gulped down a bottle of poison, the police said. "Chauhan dropped in at the Amboli Police Station unannounced. He was neither summoned nor externed in the case as alleged by him in the video. When Chauhan reached the police station, he collapsed in the hallway," Gaikwad said.

The complainant in the stalking case, a woman and two of her friends were walking along the JP Road at Amboli, when three men — Chauhan, Ganesh Jadhav (40), and Ravindra Jadhav (38) — rode past them on two scooters and made lewd comments. The complainant then alerted the police control room and tagged Mumbai Police while sharing her harrowing experience on Twitter. The woman also attached partial plate numbers of the accused with her Twitter post.
