The Vakola Police have booked two local political leaders after the duo filed cross complaints against each other, including charges of causing grievous injury and molestation. The accused have been identified as Anil Upadhyay (45) of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Rajesh Satpute and his brother Nilesh — local leaders of Shiv Sena.

According to Vakola Police, the complaints were lodged by the duo late on Monday night. Later, Upadhyay was arrested and Satpute brothers fled, out of fear of getting arrested. On Monday evening, Rajesh, who is said to be involved in a construction business was carrying out some work near Shastri Nagar area in Santacruz West where Anil's brother Chanda took an objection claiming that the construction is being done in an illegal manner. The objection turned into a heated argument, eventually leading to a scuffle.

"Anil, who came to the rescue of his brother, said in his statement that the Satpute brothers molested his minor daughter. Both the parties later came to the police, where the Satpute brothers alleged that Anil deliberately injured them, while Anil alleged that he was assaulted and his daughter was molested. After lodging a formal complaint and conducting necessary probe, Anil was arrested under section 324 of the IPC and Rajesh and his brother were booked for assault, molestation, and under relevant sections of The Prevention of children from Sexual Offences Act," said a police officer requesting anonymity.

"Looking at the gravity of the charges pressed against them, the Satpute brothers fled. We are at the moment trying to figure if the charges are genuine or were pressed to take out personal enmity. Search for the absconding brothers is underway," the officer added.
