On Wednesday morning, the Mumbai local ladies compartment of the 8.03 am departed from Borivali with the sound of music rather than the usual noise. This regular Churchgate local, which sees a group of working women sing songs everyday on their way, echoed the songs which starred the late actress Sridevi.

Speaking about the tribute paid by the group to the actress, 49-year-old Pankita Bhavsar said, “Since past five years, we have a tradition among our group to sing songs and do other activities while traveling in the train. This helps us to spend time and interact with each other. During different occasions, such as birth anniversary, death anniversary, birthdays and other occasions, we have been remembering various celebrities by singing songs from their films throughout the journey.”

The group has around 15 working class women between the age group of 30 to 60 years. “Since few days we have been listening about her death. While today, final rites were performed, we thought of singing the songs shot on her. I personally like her songs from Sadma and Chandani. We search the list of songs online and sometimes lyrics too if we don’t know the words and sing together. We sang most of her famous songs during the journey.
Sometimes other commuters join us and we sing together. We usually listen to the radios through which we get an idea of the various occasions in the life of celebrities,” said Pankita.s and emails to ascertain with whom he had communicated before his death and what drove him to commit suicide. “Things would be much clear after we record detailed statements of Thakkar’s family members,” said another police officer.

Meanwhile, Thakkar’s family is in deep shock over the suicide and is unable to understand what exactly happened on Tuesday. Thakkar’s son, Dhruv told DNA, “We all are in a state of trauma and stress due to the incident and now are waiting for other family members to come for the funeral.” “We know that he was tense since past several days due to some business issue, however, we did not even think that he would ever take such a drastic step. He was a very calm person and would not even get irritated soon. Don’t know what had exactly transpired,” said another relative of the family who does not wished to be named.

Jigar Thakkar’s funeral will take place on Thursday after the arrival of all the family members.
