A 3-year-old nursery student of a Chembur school was left unattended in her school bus after the staff failed to notice her. While the bus left the premises, an alert parent of the school ensured her safety after noticing her in Kurla.

The drama unfolded around 8 am on Tuesday when the bus ferried nursery students to Green Acres school near RK Studio. The female attendant on the bus, however, failed to spot a little girl who had fallen asleep. She marked all children "counted".

The bus then proceeded to Kurla. The school staff and the child's family went into a frenzy after they received a call saying she had been found at Nehru Nagar. "The child is crying," said the caller.

According to the girl's aunt Neelam Parmar, "Fortunately, my niece was found by a parent of the same school. But instead of rushing their staff, the school told that parent to contact us. When we called the school to check if the call was genuine, they said they would get back to us."

The family initially approached the Govandi police. Speaking to DNA, the aunt said, "The school is not even taking responsibility for the incident. The school register showed that my niece had deboarded the school bus and was in the school. The CCTV on the bus was not working," the aunt told DNA from the police station. However, the family later decided to not file any complaint against the school.

Another parent said, "After learning about the incident, all parents started calling the school to check if their child had reached safely."

Despite visiting the school and making repeated phone calls, the principal remained unavailable for comments.

Senior Inspector Shashikant Mane Govandi police station confirmed the incident. He said the parent had approached them, but returned saying they would speak to the school first.
