The final design created to revive Khotachi Wadi in Girgaum will be sent to the BMC next week for final approval. The revival project aims at preserving, protecting and celebrating the heritage value of the wadi. The project is expected to cost around Rs 50 lakh.

The project will primarily enhance the present historic character of Khotachi Wadi. The revamp includes developing an entrance with green cover, street paved with basalt stone, stones engraved with signages, historic landmarks and information plaques in metal or stone, seating arrangements with verandahs, porches and trees. Art installations like memory walls, timeline gallery, graffiti walls etc will also be made.

Local BJP corporator, Anuradha Potdar said, "Khotachi Wadi's historic characters should be restored. The wadi exists since 18th century. The area can be a tourist attraction with the revamp. Visitors here should feel its community and culture."

Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Vishwas Mote said, "We will soon have the final administrative approval and the work will start after monsoon. First, the consultant will be appointed to discuss how the restoration should be carried. The main focus is to emphasise on celebrating the living heritage of Khotachi Wadi and giving knowledge about its traditions to visitors."
