Mumbai: IRS officer held for allegedly ramming car, 1 killed and 1 injured

An Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, (IRS), has been arrested by Mankhurd Police for allegedly ramming a car on two-morning walkers on Tuesday killing one and injuring another.

An Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, (IRS), has been arrested by Mankhurd Police for allegedly ramming a car on two-morning walkers on Tuesday killing one and injuring another. 

The accused has been identified as Shaktivel Raju. 

According to the police, the incident took place around 5:30 am on Tuesday when near Mankhurd police chowk in Eastern suburbs. The police said, the victims were out for a morning walk and were walking on a road when the accused's car came speedingly ramming both of them.

In the accident, both of them sustained an injury and police immediately rushed them to a nearby hospital.  However, one of them was declared brought dead by the doctors while the other has been admitted to the hospital.

The police immediately registered a case. The passerby is claiming that Raju was under influence of alcohol however the police are waiting for the medical test reports. 

"We have registered a case against the accused and have arrested him. We have also recovered a CCTV footage of the area in which accident has been recorded. We will use it as an evidence against him," said Sanjay Vernekar, Senior Police Inspector of Mankhurd Police Station.

According to sources, as the accused is high profile, the police were being pressurized to not to register the case.
