In a span of just 12 hours two dehydrated and injured jackals were rescued from Lokhandwala and Bhandup pumping station respectively between Saturday and Sunday. With these two, three jackals have been rescued since Friday.

As per Pawan Sharma, Wildlife Warden for Thane and President of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW), the first jackal was rescued from Lokhandwala area after it was reported by some locals around late night on Saturday. "Our team managed to rescue it but it was limping and we were informed that its leg was stuck in abandoned fishing net. Even as we brought the Jackal to Thane territorial forest in the wee hours of Sunday morning and had stabalised it, we received another call this time informing about another jackal found near Bhandup pumping station by a group a birders who were in the area and found the dehydrated jackal looking in shock," he said adding that the group of birders helped in managing the mammal till the time an ambulance was sent.

Both the jackals who were at the Thane forest office were then taken by volunteers of RAWW to their Honorary Wildlife Vet Dr Rina Dev's clinic at Bandra for treatment.

"Both the jackals are in critical conditions and we have initiated treatment after taking blood samples, which will be sent for tests. One of the them, which was rescued from Lokhandwala has fractured its front limb and hence the limb has been plastered to ensure it heals. The other one too is critical and was completely dehydrated and in trauma and we have started giving it proper medical treatment," said Dev.

This is the third leopard to be rescued since Thursday. The first Jackal was rescued after it was found sitting frozen close to a car parking near Lokhandwala backroadand was rescued by Bhagesh Bhagwat a rescuer of Spreading Awareness on Reptiles and Rehabilitation Programe (SARRP).
