It has been over four months since one of the three floating restaurants — anchored near Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) off Arabian Sea — capsized into the sea. And yet, neither has the reason behind the capsize been ascertained nor the operations to salvage the vessel have been completed.

In the last week of May 2018, on the last day before the floatels were to suspend their services, the floatel, Ark Deck Bar, capsized after it hit a rock near BWSL. As a result, a hole was created in the vessel after which water began entering the vessel. More than ten crew members were rescued. Following the incident, an investigation into the incident was ordered.

It has been only a couple of weeks since an Indian firm was appointed for salvaging the vessel. In supervision of Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), the operations have begun but the same is expected to take three more weeks for the same to complete.

Mahendra Doshi from Sea Glimpse, the owner of the vessel, said, "The operations of salvaging the floatel has started after a Indian firm was appointed and the operations are expected to be completed in another 20 days. We have started cutting the boat for salvage operations, and we are working with insurance firm for expenditure on the salvaging operations that was result of an accident."

The MMB on the other hand says that the investigation to ascertain the reason behind the mishap is not concluded yet. An official of MMB said, "The report on the incident is yet to be concluded. The salvage operations have started for Ark Deck, and for now the other two floatels are back in business post monsoon. This time the rules and regulations for operating the floatels will be more stringent that is one of the precaution we can take for now to ensure safe environment."

Meanwhile, despite repeated attempts, Vikram Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of MMB was not available for comments.
