Four people have been arrested by the Crime Branch for allegedly looting a man who was carrying a bag of gold and diamond jewelry worth Rs 1.33 crores. After arresting all the miscreants on Sunday, the police claims to have recovered about 80 per cent of the valuables stolen and the search for the remaining jewelry is underway.

According to the police, those arrested have been identified as Suresh Doke (36), Mahendra Chaudhary alias Marwadi (22), Satish Sanap (26) and Vilas Pawar alias Mama (25). The victim, identified as Mukesh Kumar Bukhar (32), works as a courier agent for a private company.

Bukhar, who was entrusted to collect finished ornaments from factories across the city and dropping them off at the domestic airport for further supply, was approached by the accused quadruple on October 27. The accused threw chilly powder at him and attacked him with a knife.

"The victim was on his way to Mathuradas Mill compound in Lower Parel to take a final delivery after picking up couriers from different places. Two of the accused approached him and one of them first grabbed him from backside and the other one threw chilly powder on his face and then tried to snatch his bag and run from the spot. The victim was not ready to give up so the accused took out a knife and began cutting loose the ropes of the bag to get away and while doing so he accidentally slashed the victims hand. After getting the bag all the accused fled from the spot in a taxi." said deputy commissioner of police, detection, Dilip Sawant.

Doke who works in a hallmark company, knew about the work profile of Bukhar and he got into touch with another accused after which all the four gathered and made a plan. The victim was monitored for ten days to get all details of his whereabouts and the accused men made sure that while executing the robbery, they don't get captured by CCTV cameras. The Crime Branch which was conducting a parallel investigation in the case managed to trace the accused and later on the basis of credible information, the arrests were made along with recovery of the ornaments stolen.

"Ornaments worth Rs 1.15 crore have been recovered and we suspect that some valuables might have been melted for getting cash but our team is still trying to recover the remaining jewellery. As of now, a case has been registered under section 397 and 34 of the IPC and all the accused have been sent to police custody till next Monday." said a crime branch officer.
