Like every year the self-finance courses saw a large number of students opting for admission in city colleges. Most of the students have shown a preference for Bachelor of Management Studies followed by Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance and Bachelor of Mass Media courses, said principals of city college.

Hemlata Bagla, Principal, KC College, Churchgate, said, "A large number of students have opted for BMS and BMM courses. But the number is also high of students opting for BSc and BA courses, which is why our college cut-off merit list this year has gone up by two to five per cent for BMM, BCom, BA and BSc, respectively. This year, our cut-off merit list for BA has gone up to 91 per cent, which last year was 87 per cent. The response to BSc in Bio-Technology, Computer Science and IT is also good as compared to last year."

According to Bagla, the Bachelor of Arts in (Film, TV and New Media) which is a new course has also seen a good response. Last year, the college sold 100 admission forms, which they had to increase to up to 500 this year.

Ashok Wadia, Principal, Jai Hind College, Churchgate, said, "Our college has seen BMS as the top choice. It is followed by BAF and BMM."

Dr Pradnya Prabhu, Principal, KJ Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, Vidyavihar, said, "A new interest we have observed this year is in BSc in Statistics, as data mining and data analysis is required in every field, right from marketing to financial mathematics. By studying statistics, students will be able to develop critical thinking and analytical skills, which are required to conduct research effectively. Also, this year, we are starting MSc in Statistics which could have also contributed to the demand for it at the UG level. The second course in demand is BSc in Information Technology."
