Latest reports say that 14 people were killed and several injured in the midnight tragedy.

Amid reports of loss of lives, there were some who luckily survived the inferno.

Among those was a Mumbai gynaecologist Dr Sulbha KG Arora. In her tweets, she recalled how she miraculously survived the fire.

Narrating the incident, she said, “The Kamala Mills fire started at 1 Above. I was there and barely made it out alive. Some were not so lucky. Praying for the injured and the deceased. It was the scariest thing I have ever survived!”

In another tweet, she said talked about stampede in the pub and scenes after that.

“There was a stampede and someone pushed me. People were running over me even as the ceiling above me was collapsing in flames. Still don't know how I got out alive. Some powers were definitely protecting me,” Dr Arora said in her tweet.

It was quick thinking that saved Dr Arora and her friend's lives. Instead of running towards the exit, both decided to run towards the kitchen of the restaurant.

"We saw a small fire at one corner of the rooftop restaurant and within seconds the whole restaurant was gutted, before I could realise anything, the fire was everywhere,” Dr Arora told DNA.

She also spoke about the narrow exit of the restaurant.

Arora was at the restaurant for the first time. "It was all so scary, I could see the roof top burning and coming down, I had lost hope but my friend picked me up on time and he suggested we rush towards the kitchen. I was like, who goes deeper in a restaurant when there is a fire and we will be trapped, but then the staff at the restaurant were supportive and they guided us there. We saw many people entering kitchen of the restaurant and there was a staircase leading down," she told DNA.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight on the third floor of the four-storeyed building on Senapati Bapat Marg, a commercial hub of the city, a civic official told PTI.

"The cooling operations are underway. Some of the injured people are in critical condition," the official said.

The injured are undergoing treatment at the civic-run KEM and Sion hospitals, the official from the BMC disaster management unit said.

The fire that started little after 12 am on Friday was completely doused around 2:30 am.
