A major fire was reported on Tuesday evening near Phoenix Mall in Lower Parel in Mumbai. The fire is said to have started at around 7.50 pm in a ground floor house in Khimji-Ramji chawl opposite the mall. Five fire engines and two water tankers rushed to the spot and managed to douse the fire after two hours.

No casualties have been reported so far. Though the exact cause of fire is not known yet, a short circuit was the likely cause, a fire officer said.

“All the people present in the chawl rushed out of their homes when they realised there was a fire in the chawl, a fire officer present at the spot told DNA. The cooling process is going on at present and we estimate that the fire must have taken place through the electrical wiring. However, the exact cause will be known after we begin investigation,” he added.
