A major fire broke out in a farsan factory at Mankhurd, on Saturday afternoon. According to Fire Brigade officials, a fire sparked inside the small snack manufacturing factory nestled in the tight lanes along the Mankhurd-Bhandup Link Road.

Locals spotted flames at around 2:30 pm with thick black smoke billowing from the one-storey structure. The fire quickly caught onto three other shops in the vicinity of the factory, including a cement godown, a local restaurant and another goods shop.

Five fire tenders, two jumbo tankers and two ambulances were pressed into action, with two brigade teams attempting to douse the blaze. It took two and half hours for the teams to gain control over the fire.

"No one was injured in the incident as people evacuated the premises immediately after spotting the flames. We are yet to determine the reason for the fire," a senior fire officer, told iamin over phone.

An accidental case of fire has been registered with the local police, with investigation to be carried out soon to determine the cause of fire.

Meanwhile, traffic took a minor hit along eastern suburb with one-side of the Link Road blocked to carry out the operation.
