A video which showed a family being asked to leave a PVR theatre in Kurla, Mumbai for not standing up during the national anthem went viral on social media on Monday.
The 2.40 minute video clip showed audience creating ruckus, while a few people questioning the family as to why they could not stand for the national anthem when they can sit for four hours to watch the movie. However, after some time the family was forced to leave the cinema hall and the audience celebrated with a round of applause.
The PVR officials later said that the audience was particularly outraged because before the movie started a short documentary on 26/11 was played where the audience was asked to stand up for two minutes while the national anthem was playing.
Director of the 2-minute long documentary, Raj Konar said, "This was not just about the national anthem. People got angry because they could not even stand for two minutes for the people who sacrificed their lives for us. We are alive because of them. It took me 3 years to make this film. Can't we do this much for them?"
Commenting on the incident, a PVR spojesperson said, "On November 29, there was an altercation between guests at one of our cinemas in Mumbai, our staff intervened keeping in mind the safety of guests and a peaceful environment for all our guests."
